How does a Saskatchewan youth-care nonprofit become a leader in staff safety? For Eagle's Nest Youth Ranch (ENYR), the answer came through commitment, training, and a deliberate focus on protecting the people who dedicate their careers to caring for others.
By the end of 2022, ENYR achieved a significant milestone: Health and Safety Leadership Certification (HSLC) Level 1 across all of its locations. Under the leadership of Executive Director Susan Luedtke, the organization completed a full safety evaluation, delivered 21 training sessions, and issued more than 475 training certificates to staff.
The 4 Rs of a trauma-informed approach — Realize, Recognize, Respond, and Resist — guide how we work with youth every day. That same care extends to our team, ensuring every staff member feels safe, supported, and confident in their work.
The HSLC program recognizes organizations that go above and beyond in workplace health and safety. Achieving Level 1 certification across every location reflects a comprehensive, organization-wide commitment — one that considers not just physical safety, but the emotional and psychological well-being of our frontline team.
Strong staff safety leads to stable, high-quality care for the youth we serve. When our team feels supported, they can offer their very best to the young people and families relying on our programs.
We're proud of this achievement and remain committed to building on it as we continue supporting youth across Saskatchewan.
